Jack Sweeney, known as Chen Wenjun in China, attained a master's in Chinese studies from UC Berkeley in 1992, after having spent a year in Taipei, Taiwan, studying at the Stanford Center, then located at National Taiwan University. After graduation, Jack worked at the Chinese library in the Institute for East Asian Studies at Berkeley, where he mastered Chinese library, research and translation skills. His Chinese skills were so well-developed that the head librarian personally invited Jack to be his successor. Jack helped research books about China, including the Rape of Nanking, by Iris Chang. He visited Taipei, Taiwan and interviewed Chen Shuibian, now president of Taiwan, as part of research for "Fires of the Dragon." In 2002, Jack moved to China to study Traditional Chinese medicine and learned about medical divination systems while reading the works of Beijing professor Yang Li. Yang Li researches various types of medical divination and endorses Qi Men Dun Jia as one of the highest forms of medical divination available. Jack began to collect all the books he could find about QMDJ and began serious study and translation. His goal is to help educate non-Chinese speakers in learning all aspects of QMDJ, from medical applications to finance or marriage, wherever QMDJ can be usefully applied. |
